President Trump Tweets Ralph Waldo Emerson quote ‘When You Strike at the King, You Must Kill Him’.
President Trump surprisingly showed himself to be a fan of both Ralph Waldo Emerson and The New York Times on Saturday — tweeting out the 19th-century scribe’s famous quote, “When you strike at the King, you must kill him,”
In yet another moment of post-impeachment-acquittal braggadocio.
…..biggest test of his presidency emboldened, ready to claim exoneration, and take his case of grievance, persecution and resentment to the campaign trail.” Peter Baker @nytimes The Greatest Witch Hunt In American History!

The evergreen quote had been referenced in a Feb. 1 impeachment acquittal analysis piece by Times White House correspondent Peter Baker, and apparently caught Trump’s eye.
The president included Emerson’s quote and the top of Baker’s story — which noted that Trump’s foes had struck at him without taking him down — in his own tweet, drawing backlash from opponents, who caused “you are not a king” to trend on social media.
Trump made no mention of the Baker piece’s online headline: “While Stained in History, Trump Will Emerge From Trial Triumphant and Unshackled.”
