by Daveda Gruber:

On Thursday President Trump questioned whether the Obama FBI “spied” on his presidential campaign. This follows a widespread report on the Russia investigation’s origins. They said a government informant met several times with Trump’s former advisers.

A member of the president’s outside legal team, Rudy Giuliani, said that former FBI Director James Comey “should be prosecuted” if his bureau spied on the campaign.

On the one-year “anniversary” of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation announcements came out.

Mueller’s investigation picked up where the bureau left off.

The New York Times reported their interpretation of the investigation. In the middle of their report, they revealed that officials confirmed “at least one government informant met several times with Mr. [Carter] Page and [George] Papadopoulos.” Both of these men are former campaign advisers.

Now this is sure to give Republicans on Capitol Hill a reason to dig into records relating to an unidentified FBI source and his or her role in the Russia probe.

Trump tweeted:

On Thursday Andrew McCarthy of ‘The National Review’ had discussed how the FBI probably had “at least one confidential informant” with the campaign.

The New York Times report detailed the beginnings of the probe originally known as “Crossfire Hurricane.” It suggests looking at possible Trump campaign connections to Russia and Moscow’s influence in the 2016 presidential election.

The report said the probe had begun during the final days of the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

In regards to the report, intelligence officials were investigating Trump campaign associates former Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former adviser Page, and former campaign foreign policy adviser Papadopoulos.

On Thursday, in reaction to the “informant” line, Rudy Giuliani said that if the FBI had a spy with the campaign, “That would be the biggest scandal in the history of this town, at least involving law enforcement.”

Giuliani said, if Comey directed this “he should be prosecuted. If there’s a spy, they got nothing from it”

The report concurs with an effort by House Republicans to find more information during that period about an apparent intelligence source.

There is renewed interest by congressional investigators from August 2017. Senate testimony from Glenn Simpson, whose firm, Fusion GPS, that commissioned the dossier, testified that former British spy and dossier author Christopher Steele had told him the FBI had intelligence from an “internal Trump campaign source.”

It is not known whether Simpson was referring to the same individual.

Earlier Thursday, the president blasted the special counsel investigation, again, as a “Witch Hunt.”
