The Mitch McConnell campaign found itself on the receiving end of Twitter’s censorship crusade against conservatives, when staffers found themselves locked out of the official Twitter account on Wednesday.
All they did was post a video of an actual protest outside of the Republican Senator’s home in Kentucky. The profanity-laced video recorded the various threats of violence made against the Senator.
McConnell campaign manager Kevin Golden told the press, “this morning, Twitter locked out our account after posting the video of real-world, violent threats made against Mitch McConnell. This is a problem of the speech police in America today.”
Golden noted that the “Lexington Herald-Leader can attack Mitch with cartoon tombstones of his opponents,” but they can’t post video of actual events happening right outside the senator’s door.
“Twitter will allow the words ‘Massacre Mitch’ to trend nationally on their platform but locks our accounts for posting actual threats against us…We appealed and Twitter stood by their decision, saying our account will remain locked until we delete the video.”
Twitter claims the reason for the decision was because the “tweet violated their violent threats policy, specifically threats involving physical safety.” Yeah, a video of threats made against Mitch McConnell.
Policy declares that users “may not threaten violence against an individual or a group of people.” Really, Twitter? His account didn’t threaten anyone. If the protests were outside Nancy Pelosi’s house, Twitter’s highly subjective content checkers would likely find a reason to allow the tweet.
This is not the first time that Twitter has been in a public controversy with a high-profile conservative. Twitter has a long history of attempting to silence conservative activists by censoring their content. A recent example would be their highly publicized controversial banning of Pro-Life ads. Specifically, those of Lila Rose and her group, Live Action.
Lila Rose has been feuding with Twitter over the banning of Pro-Life ads critical of Planned Parenthood, put out by Live Action. Rose told Tucker Carlson in June of 2017, “of course, that is a public company, so this is not something they’re telling their shareholders or they’re telling their users that they’re actually going to be blocking the advertisement of Pro-Life speech. I mean this is something that they’re keeping a secret, and now we’re trying to get this news out there that they’ve been blocking us.”
Texas Senator Ted Cruz has been at the forefront in trying to reign in social media giants like Twitter. Cruz has threatened to regulate big tech corporations like Facebook, Twitter, and Google. Especially, if they continue to censor conservative and Christian content.

The locking out of the Mitch McConnell campaign’s Twitter is only the latest in a series of actions that Twitter has taken to silence conservative and Christian voices.
Twitter’s abusive pattern of behavior indicates that there’s a subversive plot to censor conservatives who use the social media site. It’s a serious threat to free speech that needs to addressed.
