The latest CNN poll spells big trouble for radical progressive Democrats, with former Vice President Joe Biden widening his lead over the Democratic Primary field. The new poll has him way ahead of the pack with 29% of the “Democratic and Democratic-leaning registered voters” who were polled.
The numbers put Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren in second and third with 15% and 14% respectively. That is half of what Biden is seeing. Kamala Harris watched her popularity plummet, as she dropped like a rock from 17% back in June, to only a meager 5% in the newest poll. The data indicates that Democrats are comfortable with an “old white male” after all. Voters appear to be leaning heavily toward the establishment figure of Joe Biden as their standard-bearer.
Though Joe Biden comes across as a moderate, he still has some radical ideas. Voters need to question him about his actual position on the Hyde Amendment, for instance. It prohibits the use of Taxpayer funds to pay for abortion services and he flipped-flopped on the issue earlier in the campaign, originally coming out in opposition to the Amendment.
The poll shows that Democratic Primary voters are much more concerned about who can beat Donald Trump, rather than ideology. 35% of polled voters, who make this their top priority in choosing a candidate, favor Joe Biden. He also garners most of the overall support in the primaries from moderate and conservative voters at 34%. His support among liberals is at 22%, according to CNN.
When Joe Biden is the choice for moderates, it highlights and calls into question the radicalism of the other candidates. The Democratic Party has moved so far to the left that the moderate and centrist choice is an old, white, establishment career politician.
Biden holds a solid lead in spite of the numerous “gaffes” he’s made on the campaign trail. Recently the former Vice President told a Town Hall crowd, “We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor Kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” The gaffes do not seem to be hurting him in the polls one bit.

We’re 14 and half months away from Election Day, and still a few months from the first caucuses and primaries. That is a long time in the political world, where anything can happen and change the dynamic. Even so, Joe Biden remains as the frontrunner for the 2020 Democrat nomination for President. Don’t be fooled though.
