After a first night of bickering and jostling with each other over who can take the more radical and socialistic positions — on health care, immigration, and gun control — there were even more fireworks on the second night.

Again, the candidates attacked each other like wild animals, and the whole pack went after front-runner Joe Biden. The old, white, candidate came under heavy assault from his rivals, each trying to score a knockout blow that would take him down.

Biden was expecting it this time, appearing more aggressive than he had in his first debate appearance last month.

At one point, Barack Obama’s former VP made a truly memorable gaffe. Biden was trying to instruct viewers on where they could get more information on his campaign. He told viewers to “go to Joe30330,” when he was supposed to say text Joe to 30330.

Oh boy. His handlers must be shaking their heads after that one. Young entrepreneurs already gobbled up the domain name and redirected it to their own parody site.

The topics of the second night of debate were similar to those discussed on the first night. Issues dealing with immigration, health care, and criminal justice reform.

Like the first debate, there was an energetic back and forth between Biden and Kamala Harris of California. Health care, again, was a flaming hot topic. Biden attacked Harris’ healthcare plan, criticizing that it would require a middle class tax increase and more importantly, her plan would eliminate private health insurance.

“You can’t beat President Trump with double-talk on this plan,” Biden declared. “The plan, no matter how you cut it, costs $3 trillion. It will require middle-class taxes to go up, not down. Thirdly, it will eliminate employer-based insurance.”

Harris is firmly on the record as stating that she would support taking insurance companies totally out of the mix.

Senator Harris fought back, calling Biden’s description of her scheme inaccurate. Where? Everyone is asking. She has frequently supported eliminating private insurance, on tape.

Tulsi Gabbard got in a good point about the hypocrisy of Kamala Harris, locking people up in jail for doing something she herself enjoyed. “She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations then laughed about it when asked if she ever smoked marijuana,” Gabbard reminded. Harris got so high in college she claimed she heard music from the future.

Biden also got into a battle with Julian Castro that highlights the divide between the young progressives and older moderates. Biden had the courage to call illegal immigration “illegal” and not only that, actually suggest it should be prevented.

“If you cross the border illegally, you should be able to be sent back. It’s a crime.”

As Biden was interrupted by hecklers, enraged by Obama era deportations, the former mayor of San Antonio shot back, “It looks like one of us has learned from the lessons of the past and one of us hasn’t.”

Kirstin Gillibrand is also making headlines with her remark that she can explain “white privilege” to suburban soccer moms. The way she sees it, the only thing that keeps white kids from being gunned down in cold blood is “white privilege.”

“I can explain to white women in the suburbs that when their son is walking down the street with a bag of M&Ms in his pocket, wearing a hoodie, his whiteness is what protects him from not being shot.”

White women who live in the suburbs are now generally expected to vent their rage on social media. Conservative Americans don’t often take being lectured by the likes of Kirsten Gillibrand very kindly.

She certainly doesn’t want to be left out of the limelight. “I don’t believe that it’s the responsibility of Cory and Kamala to be the only voice that takes on these issues of institutional racism,” Gillibrand went on. “As a white woman of privilege who is a U.S. Senator, it is also my responsibility to lift up those voices.”

This is the same arrogant, elitist attitude that elected Donald Trump in 2016. Americans are tired of being talked down to and lectured. Liberals still haven’t seemed to get that.

President Trump fired back after the debate, tweeting, “the people on the stage tonight, and last, were not those that will either Make America Great Again or Keep America Great! Our country now is breaking records in almost every category, from Stock Market to Military to Unemployment. We have prosperity & success like never before.”

It will be interesting how the race shakes out in the coming days and weeks, — and if Biden’s gaffe does any long-term damage. On the same note, Kirsten Gillibrand isn’t likely to find very many listeners in suburban America.
