Last month alone, Over 100,000 foreign nationals were captured after illegally crossing the border between Mexico and the U.S., or turned away while attempting to cross. Tom Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, recently alerted Fox News viewers that congress still hasn’t taken any proper action on the border, and lawmakers need to take serious action soon.
A lot of this mass migration is happening because people are getting the wrong information, with most crossings made by families who are told that smuggling a baby across the border is a sure fire way to avoid detention.
“First of all, Congress needs to act. Look at those numbers, two thirds of those numbers are family units or Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC). Family units are coming because the word is out if you bring a child you won’t be detained.”
As Homan points out, the vast majority ignore their court dates, expecting to simply live in the shadows until liberal legislators resurrect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. “Over 80 percent don’t show up in court and they are going to remain in the United States illegally until the next DACA comes up because this is your next DACA population,” he warns.
After all, it was Barack Obama’s DACA program that opened the floodgates to begin with. “If you look at the numbers, this all started in FY2012 and DACA was awarded by the Obama administration.”
The children are the ones who suffer the most, some sick, taken from their homes by their family, or often a stranger, The journey is often long and arduous. They also face starvation on the way.
The numbers of Aliens crossing over our border is devastating. Immigration officials state that 109,144 people were stopped while they were trying to jump the border, all of them considered “inadmissible” by border agents.
“Democrats put language in the bill that clearly said ICE cannot take action against a parent responsible for UAC, they couldn’t do any enforcement action at a household of UAC.”
Homan declared that the only reason was because of an intentional loophole written in the laws. “When the FY19 budget was signed, remember, the president shut the border down, put the committee together, came up with a bill.” Homan explains. “They put language in that bill, Democrats put language in the bill that clearly said ICE cannot take action against a parent responsible for UAC, they couldn’t do any enforcement action at a household of UAC.”
The President has done all he can to build the wall but congress has put obstacles in front of him in every way.
The former ICE director seemed harsh but his words were brutally honest when he asserted “if Congress is not going to do its job, we need to do operationally what Congress has failed to do legislatively.”
“ICE needs to do a nationwide operation. Look for family units and single adults who had their day in court or didn’t show up in court and ordered removed by a federal judge. If those orders don’t mean anything, if those orders aren’t executed there is no integrity to our system.”
Homan is absolutely right, If our laws aren’t followed or enforced, then those laws don’t mean anything.
