Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, said that for being “respectful of our football team” trumped the right of Steelers offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva to show respect for the national anthem.

Villanueva, a former Army Ranger, was the only Steeler to break from the team’s orders and come outside of the tunnel on Sunday in Chicago to stand for “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Tomlin said, “Like I said, I was looking for 100 percent participation, we were gonna be respectful of our football team.”

Well, Mr. Tomlin, respect is standing for the national anthem. standing for those who gave their lives for you to be free.

RULE:

“The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the NFL League Rulebook. It states:

‘The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition … It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.’

However, no such wording appears in the http://operations.nfl.com/media/2646/2017-playing-rules.pdf 2017 version of the Official Playing Rules of the National Football League: Pages 62 and 63 contain only regulations about the enforcement of fouls committed on the field during gameplay, and nowhere else does that document specify anything about the either the playing of the national anthem prior to games or the required behavior of players and team personnel during that ceremony. In fact, the rulebook makes no mention of the national anthem at all.”

Maybe it’s time we gave up on football? They changed a rule because of this nonsense with the ‘taking a knee’ for the national anthem.

It started with one player, Colin Kaepernick them it caught on like wildfire. Kaepernick should never have been permitted to do it.

I say BOYCOTT until the standing rule from 2016 and before is re-instated.

  1. I believe we all should respect the flag and those who give us our freedoms If you don’t want to respect it go find another Country to live in and find out that you WILL respect theirs or go to jail or maybe even die because our Country is thee only Country that allows such disrespect and it needs to STOP!!!!!!!!
