While watching Neal Cavuto interview Ken Langone, the Co-Founder of Home Depot, I found myself wanting to yell at the television. Mr. Langone, who is a billionaire, repeatedly said how the government needs to do more to end Financial Inequality in this country. He said, “I’m rich, so I can afford to pay more in taxes.” While he may feel that way, I have an issue with his line of thought.
How has more money in taxes ever fixed ANYTHING? We all know the government has wasted TRILLIONS of our hard-earned tax dollars over the years. It seems for every dollar they take from the American Taxpayer, they end up spending two. They can’t seem to understand the idea of a budget. Nope, they just spend, spend, spend, and then make empty promises to fix the mess THEY created during the next election cycle.
Why is it impossible to cut spending? I know millions of Americans over the last few years were forced to make difficult choices on where they would spend their money. And not on luxury items, such as a new boat or extravagant vacations. Nope, I’m talking about if we can afford to keep the movie channels on our cable bill, or if we can afford to get a new car because the old one is breaking the bank to keep running. We are forced to make those difficult decisions every day, so why can’t those in our government? I can tell you why. It’s because it’s NOT THEIR MONEY!
Over the years, those in Congress have threatened to cut Social Security benefits because they say it’s going broke. They call it an entitlement like welfare, and such. I hate to tell them but we worked and paid into the social security fund. We were promised once we reached retirement age the money would be there for us. We were led to believe it was like paying into an insurance plan. So, tell me how those who NEVER paid into social security are getting money from it? Millions are being paid to illegal immigrants, refugees, and those who can come up with an excuse as to why they can’t work. Whatever happened to the Lockbox we were told held our money? Yet, year after year those in DC will use that threat against the American people to get more money into their wasteful hands.
Another thing that gets my blood boiling is how those in Congress and who served in the White House get special privileges when it comes to earnings. How is it when someone gets elected they make more money than the average income of the people they represent? How is that right? I firmly believe each person serving in Congress should not make more per year than the average income in their district. As to the President, they should not make more than the average income of the entire country. I believe if this were the case, they would work harder to get incomes up and people would be more prosperous in no time.
Every day, we see all the stuff those in DC waste our money on, and then they have the nerve to pat themselves on the back for a job well done. I’m sorry but sending millions upon millions of dollars to other countries, of which several of those countries hate us while Americans are struggling to pay their bills is unacceptable. Those in DC seem to feel free to waste taxpayer money on endless handouts and special interest projects to pad their own pockets. They didn’t seem to care that families had struggled with the loss of jobs and a tightening economy during the Obama years. Nope, they just stand in front of the news cameras and lie to our faces then tell us we’re fools not to believe the lies.
However, we finally let them know we were DONE. Those same elites were shocked when We the People went to the polls last November and sent them a resounding message by electing President Donald Trump. We let them know that we’re tired of the shell game they’ve been playing with OUR money.
Now, we are facing another budget bill showdown. Which side will cave? Will the government shutdown because no deal was made? Will the Republicans cave AGAIN and give the Democrats their demands? Why can’t each bill stand on its own merits without being loaded up with wasteful spending, or things that have NOTHING to do with the bill being voted on? Now that they voted to extend the vote for 2 weeks I’m sure we’ll see them do their normal dance of lies and excuses. Hopefully, the American people will call their representatives and let them know we are tired of them playing with OUR money.
I’m sorry, but this is NOT a simple game between right and wrong. This is WAR! We are at war against those who wish to control every aspect of our lives. We are at war against the steady movement toward Socialism as pushed by those on the left.
I opened this article with the comment from Mr. Langone on the importance of ending financial inequality. It’s easy to say such foolishness when you say you have more than enough money; however, most of us don’t have such a luxury. The small business owner is forced to stay small because of the heavy hand of the IRS and tax laws. Couples are forced to watch their earnings for fear of falling into the next tax bracket. My husband and I had that rude awakening one year when our combined earnings tossed us into the next bracket which took us from getting a refund to owing a little over $1,000. That may not hurt someone like Mr. Langone, but it was a difficult pill for us to swallow.
It sounds all warm and fuzzy to say we need to stop financial inequality, but what does that actually mean? I hate to tell Mr. Langone there is NO such thing as financial equality. It doesn’t even happen in Communism. There will always be the haves and have-nots. There will always be those who work hard and those who don’t. That’s just how life is. I guess he’s forgotten how this country was the first in the history of mankind to give its people the opportunity to achieve success through hard work.
So, what happens now? Will those in Congress stop playing partisan politics and pass a tax bill that will help the American taxpayer, or will they continue with their shell game? President Trump has done all he can to help us, now it’s in the hands of those who don’t seem to have our best interest at heart.
