Democrats have come to the conclusion that they have a big problem. The only way they can vote President Donald Trump out of the White House is to drastically alter the constitution. The Founding Fathers set things up so that elections can’t be decided by mob rule but one 2020 candidate has a radical solution.
Bernie Sanders checked his Twitter account on Friday and was perturbed by a post he came across. Uber liberal MSNBC was complaining how Hillary Clinton “won” the popular election by around 2.9 million votes.
“Hillary Clinton got 2.9M more votes than Donald Trump in the 2016 election, but Trump comfortably prevailed in the Electoral College. It’s possible in 2020 that he could win 5M fewer votes than his opponent — and still win a second term.”
Bernie was quick to respond. “It Is Time To “Abolish the Electoral College.”
Good luck with that one Bernie. The Convention of States team has been fighting for years simply to call an Article 5 convention for the states to create an amendment bypassing congress. They went that route because Congress won’t actually do anything constructive.
Conservatives have been pushing for amendments to require a balanced federal budget or set term limits for Congressmen but nothing moves off dead center.
Maybe with Bernie and the socialists behind the wheel, Congress will move an amendment through at light speed. They would have to if they want to get it done before next year’s election. It isn’t likely.
The core of the problem is this. There are millions of Democrats in the U.S., but they tend to live in only a few states. California and Texas are “the heart of Democrats’ geography problem,” NBC notes. Because of their exploding Latino and Asian populations, they favor Democrats, even though Texas is still considered a “red” state.
In order to win, a candidate has to rack up 270 Electoral College votes. In 2016, Trump nailed 306 to Clinton’s 232. Democrats started screaming bloody murder that Trump stole the election. What made it seem even worse is that they were led to believe the outcome was in the bag for Hillary six ways from Sunday.
Our Founding Fathers saw today’s corruption and neglect coming from a long way off. That is why they set it up this way, as a “safeguard against mob rule.”

Densely populated areas, as along the coasts, could unfairly sway the outcome of an election. The Electoral College evens the playing field to let the less populated agricultural states have an equal say in government.

Without the added layer of protection, candidates would be forced to concentrate only on the high population areas and forget about the rest of the country. That would go against the very principles that this country was founded on, that no matter where someone lives in America, they should have a voice in their government.
