The U.S. Senate refused to tie President Trump’s hands over a response to Iran’s aggression.

The backstabbing bill sponsored by Utah’s Tom Udall went down in flames, but it took all day on Friday to do it. That set a Senate record in the process.

Another surprise is that it got more yes votes than no. The reason it didn’t pass is because there is an agreed 60 vote threshold.

Udall’s measure would have prevented President Donald Trump from launching any kind of strike on Iran without getting an okay from Congress first.

Voting started at 5:00 a.m. in order to accommodate Senators who planned to leave Washington for the holiday recess. 10 hours and 8 minutes later, “Udall Amendment No. 883” went into the history books as “the longest vote in Senate History.”

A “handful” of RINO Republicans crossed the aisle, according to Reuters, but there wasn’t a single DINO defector. One thing you have to give democrats credit for is that they stick together.

Liberal leaning supporters of the bill are terrified a “miscalculation” by President Trump “could plunge the country into prolonged conflict.”

As Virginia Democrat Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., puts it:

“A congressional vote is a pretty good signal of what our constituents are telling us – that another war in the Middle East would be a disaster right now, we don’t want the president to just do it on a whim.”

Kaine is a co-author of the measure.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio pointed out that we don’t want to give the Ayatollah any ideas:

“It’s only going to reinforce this belief among some in the regime that they can go further than they can.”

Supporters of President Trump maintain that it would only “impose unnecessary restrictions.”

According to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:

“it’s nothing more than another example of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Whatever the president’s for they seem to be against. Rather than work with the president to deter our actual enemy, they have chosen to make him the enemy.”
