On Monday, Chicago police released over 70 hours of video.
One clip is an officer’s body camera footage showing Jussie Smollett with a white rope tied in a noose around his neck.
Smollett, described by CNN as “a gay black actor,” had just falsely reported “a hate-fueled attack” which he’d staged with the help of the Osundairo brothers.
Smollett had simply “forfeited his $10,000 bail money and done community service.”
Smollett’s staged production opens with his creative director leading the police into Smollett’s apartment.
“He doesn’t want that to be a big deal, you understand what I’m saying? I just feel like he should report this. I know he’s been getting some hate mail.”
The director didn’t want to go too far out on a limb though, “He never showed it to me.”
Smollett makes his appearance on screen, casually dressed in a white sweater, with a length of clothesline “tied in a noose around his neck.”
The first question from officers was “Do you want to take it off or anything?”
“Yeah, I do, I just wanted y’all to see… They poured some bleach on me.”
Smollett was quick to notice he was on candid camera.
“You’re filming this right?”
“I don’t want to be filmed,”
According to Chicago PD Superintendent Eddie Johnson, “Smollett paid two brothers $3,500 to stage the attack.” He wanted to “take advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career.”
Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo, walked away after prosecutors learned it was a hoax.
