The rabidly progressive Governor of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker thumbed his nose at Christians and other conservatives on general principles this week, but he gave the middle finger to his state taxpayers at the same time, just to spite President Donald Trump.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals can’t be relied on to produce liberal opinions on demand the way they used to. On June 20, they gave President Trump’s administration the okay to cancel federal funding of abortion clinics.
Panicked progressives fought a last ditch effort that died in the dirt last week, when the 9th “rejected emergency bids” to change their mind.
Liberal states like Oregon, Maine, Maryland and Massachusetts saw the writing on the wall and prepared for the worst. Illinois simply followed their lead. Instead of separating actual family planning and women’s health care from abortions, they all decided to reject the federal tax dollars that have been funding abortion for years.
They all think they are annoying President Trump. We don’t need your stinking money, so there!
“President Trump’s gag rule undermines women’s health care and threatens the providers that millions of women and girls rely on, and we will not let that stand in the state of Illinois.”
“The Illinois Department of Public Health will provide state funding to the 28 local clinics that normally receive Title X money through the agency,” Pritzker vowed. Taxpayers will “make up for an estimated $2.4 million in federal dollars they otherwise stand to lose for the rest of the fiscal year.”
President Donald Trump is laughing all the way to the Treasury. A big chunk of the $286 million in Title X grant money could be left sitting right where it is in the bank instead of going to Planned Parenthood when you consider other states are doing the same thing.
The state of Illinois has so much money they can fund the abortion clinics on their own, says the governor. So why were they taking federal money in the first place? The state’s Republican Party wants to know if Pritzker has lost his mind.
They want to know how he can be so cavalier about refusing federal money for “non-abortion-related medical care for women and girls,” simply because of his “unrivaled zeal for forced taxpayer funding of abortions.”
Under the president’s new policy, not only do abortion clinics need to be financially separate, they need to be physically separate. Federal taxpayers will no longer be paying for abortions.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the tax base in those states when the conservatives all move out, taking their tax dollars with them.
