by Daveda Gruber:
On Sunday, Corey Lewandowski, a former Trump campaign manager, said that President Trump’s legal team will “take it to court” if Special Counsel Robert Mueller subpoenas him as part of the Russia probe.
Lewandowski said, “They will take it to court, and I believe the court’s going to be on the president’s side on this.”
Lewandowski, who was a Trump confidant, was speaking in regards to a possible interview with Mueller that some Republican allies have warned could be a “perjury trap.”
Over the weekend, news came out that the president’s legal team had even written a letter to Mueller in January. It claimed that Trump could not be forced to testify. It also claimed that Trump could not have committed obstruction of justice because of his broad authority as president.
Contrary to the letter, Lewandowski said the president and his team still appear willing to sit down for questions with Mueller’s team. They would like to determine the scope of such a meeting first. He also said all sides could avoid a subpoena fight if they can keep the questions focused.
Personally, I don’t believe Mueller and his team can do this. They seem to be out to get Trump. The questions will never be focused on obtaining the truth.
Lewandowski was adamant that he doesn’t believe the president would defy a court order.
He said, “The president clearly respects the rule of law in this country.”
Lewandowski spoke about the new accusations, made by the president, on what he calls “spygate.” It came out that an FBI informant was in contact with several members of the 2016 Trump campaign. Lewandowski ran the Trump campaign until shortly before the Republican National Convention in the summer of 2016. He complained that the FBI never contacted him.
Lewandowski said, “Never did they notify me of their concerns about potential Russian meddling” or a “potential spy.”
Democrats have kicked up a fuss and said that the FBI didn’t appear to actually have a spy in the campaign.
Ex-intelligence community officials have argued that law enforcement were just trying to find out more about Russian meddling.
What Russian meddling, the meddling done by Democrats? That’s all that has been uncovered.
GOP Rep. Trey Gowdy has defended the FBI as having acted appropriately.
I’m not sure about what I believe about Gowdy anymore. Is he siding with the Democrats?
Lewandowski said it looked like “selective enforcement” and he added “There had better be accountability.”
Lewandowski has joined Vice President Mike Pence’s political action committee, recently.
I guess that’s a better place to be at rather than his brief controversial position with CNN. Lewandowski is no longer serving as a contributor to the ‘Fake News Network’.
