President Trump hit the Democrats hard on Tuesday. He suggested they want to “shut down the Government.”

It is now just days before the deadline at the end of the week. This emphasizes his non-negotiable campaign promise to build a wall along the U.S. Mexico border.

He tweeted again moments later pushing for a “merit based” immigration system.

We have until Friday at 11:59:59 p.m. ET, for funding to keep the federal government running, then it expires.

It appears that Congressional lawmakers cannot come to a bipartisan agreement.

If they cannot agree, the government will close on Jan. 20, which is the one year anniversary of Trump taking office.

Congressional lawmakers, both Republican and Democrats, have not agreed on a long-term budget solution. They have continued to pass short-term interim  spending deals as they negotiate their policies. Each side has must haves.

President Trump has accused Democrats of blocking any agreement on a spending bill. They have demands of preserving the Obama-era ‘Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals’. This is a program that protects immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children from deportation.

Republicans, on the other hand, are looking for increased defense funding, and for border security. this would include changes to the ‘Visa Lottery System’ and to “chain migration” programs.

The president has insisted that the wall along the southern border must be included in any broad immigration reform deal.
