Nelson Gustavo Caceres an Illegal alien who fled to Guatemala while facing rape charges in Westchester County has been arrested 30 years later in NY.
Illegal alien Nelson Gustavo Caceres, 51, bolted while out on bail in 1989 to avoid his trial on charges he sexually assaulted a woman in Mount Kisco in 1988.
Caceres was convicted of Attempted Rape 1st Degree and sentenced in absentia in 1989 to five to 15 years in state prison.
In addition to that sentence, he currently faces a charge of Bail Jumping 2nd Degree, a felony.
In 1988 Caceres was arrested by the Mount Kisco Police Department after he dragged a woman into a wooded area and sexually assaulted her.
The victim met him earlier in the evening and reported that he became enraged when she would not go back to his residence.
Police believed the Guatemalan national returned to the Central American country to avoid jail.
But a recent case review suggested he had returned to New York and was living in Mount Kisco.
“Detectives conducted multiple interviews in the village and set up surveillance at several locations,” cops said in a statement. “Their investigation determined that a person thought to be Caceres frequented a local deli and was riding a red bicycle.”
He was busted Friday night after chaining his bike to a tree to go inside the deli. He was nabbed as he went back to get it.
