Another church shooting happened today in Sutherland Springs Texas. Fox News named the suspect as Devin Patrick Kelly, a 26 yr. old white male. The new victim church is First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs which sits in a small town of only four hundred people. Most are saying, “Here we go again”, while others are asking “Why God’s house?” In the most recent history of church shootings we remember the South Carolina Church, June 18th 2015, with Dylan Roof as the shooter, and let’s not forget Emanuel Kidega Sampson, shooter in the Nashville Tennessee church, September 29, 2017. As humans, we question the act of murder in and of itself, but even more so when it takes place in places we hold most dear and sacred such as houses of worship. Even those who have no conscience of God at all, wonder where God is when his house is being invaded. Is the Devil in the house of God? I think he is.
Do these shootings reflect on the congregation? Did they bring this on themselves? As we know, the shooters in all these stories with the exception of today’s story are shooters not affiliated with the church they chose at all. We can’t say this about the shooter in today’s massacre just yet, because we know nothing at all about the named shooter,
Dylan Patrick Kelly, at this time. All we know about today’s events is another shooter, walked into another sacred place, to carry out and evil act. We tend to wonder is this the new trend, and if so, why a church at all? I may not have the answer to this question but I can establish something to think about concerning these events.
In the year 2017, we live in a world that no longer understands lines in the sand. Every generation pushes the norm one step farther from the generation before wanting to leave their mark in the world. Rebellion seems to be the ticket. Every generation pushing the moral compass farther into obscurity. What a mark to leave in the name of your generation, eh! What is unfolding in the world is hatred. Hatred is the driving force in all the horrors of daily news. It is either hatred against a race, against a political party, against a neighbor, family member, religion, country, I could go on but you get it. Why the church setting? Why the house of God? I will tell you! Is it one person’s fault, no, but it is one person’s influence, assured. I have one name for you and it is Barack Obama.
When Barack Obama took the helm of this ship, he blurred the lines of normal American life. He started instilling in every speech, spoken over and over again, how America isn’t a Christian nation. He started speaking as if he were giving his permission to the fringes of society to do whatever, whenever and everything done in darkness no longer needs to be hidden. He made it acceptable to go against laws of the land, laws against nature and laws set in stone by the creator himself, the “Great I Am”. He hated God and he didn’t hide it. If he could have gotten away with saying “Allah Bless America”, he would have used this term and used it often. Again, he didn’t hide it. This is when humans began to believe they could actually remove the creator from his own creations. Is this something new? Did Obama come up with this all by himself, no! This is not what I’m saying! What I am saying is Obama set the tone, the pace, of America spiraling out of control into the deep dark abyss of the lie, “We can do what we want with no consequence”. His permission to believe America is not a Christian nation set fire in the hearts of those who already hated God and all his rules. Hence, no more lines in the sand that set us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. We are but creations with borrowed breath. Whether we believe or not, we will be held accountable for thinking we can remove the one who made all, from all he made. As we ask, “Is the Devil in the House of God?” My answer would be, he has always been there. He has always walked into the church from the street observing in silent disguise looking as any one of us. When there are no lines left in the sand, there is nothing sacred. When there is nothing sacred, the devil can and does, walk into the house of God.
