Donald Trump rode into office on a promise, in part, of clamping down on illegal immigration and, in the face of Islamic terror attacks on U.S. soil, banning or limiting Muslims from entering the country if they came from spots of high terrorist activity.
The country and Muslim world went nuts, calling Trump everything from a xenophobe to a racist to a discriminatory and bigoted clown.
And now, President Obama has taken steps in his last days of office to make sure Muslims would have the easiest access possible to American soil. What’d he do?
“The Obama administration on Thursday officially scrapped the last vestiges of a U.S. registration system for Muslim immigrants,”
“If President-elect Donald Trump now wants to introduce an expanded version of the program, he will have to start from scratch.” Looks like Obama just wanted to do everything he could to make sure Muslims wouldn’t have to face any extra scrutiny from Trump. But the scrapping of the program could actually compromise U.S. safety and security.
“The post-9/11 registration program for immigrant men arriving mainly from the Islamic world hasn’t been enforced since 2011, “Although it never prohibited travel for men and boys from the more than 20 affected countries … Trump’s suggestions about banning Muslim immigrants from the United States have led to fears that it could be reinstated and used for new and enhanced purposes.”
For instance, Muslim communities fear Trump could use the program to halt immigration.
So Obama stepped forward to put a stop to it before it even began.
Once again, Obama’s trying to foist his will and his open-border agenda on the incoming president-elect’s administration.
“The decision to erase it from the books entirely marks one of [Obama’s] last administrative actions on immigration and will at least slow any Trump effort to introduce even tougher requirements,”
