Three hostages were reported to have been taken by an armed man during an “active shooter situation” at a California veterans home Friday afternoon.
This was reported by a fire official.
The veterans home is on lockdown after reports of shots fired.

Police said, between 15 to 20 shots went off at the facility, police said, according to KTVU.

Reports are coming in that this is a hostage situation and is no longer being considered an “active shooter situation.”
The veterans home said in a statement on Facebook, “Law enforcement is at the Yountville Veteran’s Home right now following reports of gunfire. The safety of our residents, workers and the community is our top priority. We have activated our emergency response protocol and are cooperating with law enforcement. Further official information will be provided by law enforcement when it is confirmed.”
It is unclear if the shots were fired from inside or outside the building.
It has been reported that an armed gunman, dressed in black with body armor, entered the building and may have taken hostages.
The Veterans Home of California in Yountville dates back to 1884 and is considered the largest veterans home in the U.S. with more than 1000 veterans from all wars dating back to World War II.
Police are on the scene but cars are being deviated from approaching.
Reports say that most people inside the home are elderly.
Two or three hostages are reported being held.
Security in the facility are not armed.
The hostage taker is reported as being identified and known to police as someone who was in a halfway house for veterans recovering from mental problems. That home is ‘Pathway House’ and he was released a few weeks ago. The facility is for younger military persons.
FBI swat team negotiators are being brought in.
Gunman slipped into a party in building G of the home’s dinning hall and let some people leave but others are being held. The gunman is reported to have been seen and was dressed in black wearing body armor and armed with a military style weapon.
It’s a fluid situation with limited information. Now being reported as “active shooter” situation. Families of those living in the home are being informed with what information they have.
Lengthy gunfire but no deputies injured. It is not known if any inside are injured.
