Rep. Jerry Nadler and the House Judiciary Committee thought that they could get former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski to give them something they could use to show obstruction and impeach President Donald Trump.
They didn’t get it. Instead Lewandowski aggressively defended the President in no uncertain terms. From the moment he opened his mouth, he showed the committee he wasn’t going to help them railroad President Trump. Not one bit. He made it clear that was exactly what they were trying to do. He wants the public to see the truth. “I would like to start off my hope that today’s hearing is productive and in revealing the truth both to the committee and to the American people.”
This isn’t the first time he’s testified. He reminded the committee he’s racked up over 20 hours going over the exact same questions. He also noted that it was a sudden surprise to him that it was to be an impeachment hearing. “Just last week, this committee, over the objections of the minority, changed the rules to make it an impeachment hearing, which is unfair. But, in the spirit of cooperation, I am prepared to move forward.”
And move forward he did. First he spelled out his basic background and history with the beginnings of the Trump campaign, then he got down to the point of why he was there.
“Since election day,” Lewandowski began, “whether it was bad actors at the FBI and the intelligence community or lies coming from the current house majority, that there is evidence of collusion, the American people continue to be sold a false narrative with the purpose of undermining the legitimacy of the 2016 results.” In other words, the election was rigged against Trump from the beginning. Not only that, the Department of Injustice and Federal Bureau of Instigation were used as “weapons.”
As part of the campaign, “I also received hundreds of thousands of e-mails. Some days, as many as 1,000 e-mails. Unlike Hillary Clinton, I did not delete them.” None of them were from Russian spies. “to the best of my recollection, I don’t recall any conversations with foreign entities or any offering to help in the outcome of an election.”
In fact, he reminded the committee that he has long been saying there are other people who do belong in jail for what he’s falsely accused of. “I have said it many times, anybody who has affected the outcome of an election should be spend their life in jail.” Like Obama, Joe Biden, James Clapper and James Brennan.
Those men had a duty to the American people “to ensure the 2016 free and open election.” He left it up to the committee to “see how effective they were doing the job.” He categorically denied any connection between the Trump campaign and Russia, or anyone else. “There was no conspiracy or collusion with foreign governments on my watch or afterwards.”
Robert Mueller’s report is nothing but expensive toilet paper, Lewandowski scorned. “After the Mueller report was made public, the narrative of the fake Russian collusion has fallen apart. In conclusion, it is sad to say that the American people have spent three years and over $40 million on these investigations and calculated by trump haters to take down a duly elected president of the united states, and for the act of collusion or conspiracy, there was none.”
What the grand inquisition did produce was “harassment of this president from the day he won the election.” He told Nadler and his cronies, “we as a nation would be better served if elected officials like yourselves would combat the true crises of the country as opposed to rabbit holes like this.”
