Since when does the National Rifle Association have to take anything from San Francisco? In still another leftist symbolic gesture, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors called the NRA a “domestic terrorist organization.” The resolution was introduced in July after three people died in a shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
No, the left doesn’t tire of putting down anything conservative. Progressives can’t stand somebody believing in a different point of view. A resolution passed by unanimous vote Tuesday night declared that the NRA “promotes extremist positions, spreads propaganda”, and encourages gun owners to “acts of violence.” Not only that, they point the finger saying that the NRA has “armed those individuals who would and have committed acts of terrorism.”
NRA spokeswoman Amy Hunter described the resolution as a “worthless and disgusting ‘soundbite remedy’ to the violence epidemic gripping our nation.” She also slammed the board, calling the move, “a reckless assault on a law-abiding organization, its members, and the freedoms they all stand for.”
The resolution demands that the city and county remove any San Francisco NRA vendors they do business with, trying to hit the organization in the wallet. The resolution requires city officials to “take every reasonable step to limit” San Francisco’s “financial and contractual relationships.”
According to Catherine Stefani, a member of the 11-person board who proposed the resolution, “this country is terrorized by gun violence, and we need to call the NRA what it is: a domestic terrorist organization.” Nobody, she claims, “has done more to fan the flames of gun violence than the NRA.”
Disregarding the fact that gun violence started to spike about the same time parents stopped disciplining their children, Stefani blames the entire problem on availability of assault rifles. “Every country on earth has video games, movies, and mental health issues, and yet only the U.S. has gun violence at elementary schools, at the movies, at Walmart. The difference is guns. No other country has so many assault rifles on their streets.”
Another thing that she doesn’t want to admit is that the NRA is one of the biggest gun safety educators on the planet, teaching people how to use firearms safely and responsibly.
The domestic terrorism designation can’t carry any law enforcement impact because there isn’t any law for that. There’s no federal charge for domestic terrorism. Anything the FBI calls ‘domestic terror related’ winds up being charged under gun laws or an appropriate state charge.
Trump has expressed openness to expand background checks but that would tread on the Second Amendment too closely. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has continued to block gun restrictions. He won’t put anything about gun control on the floor unless he knows Trump will sign it.
