Well known as the “worlds longest yard sale,” this years 32nd annual street festival is all set to get underway Thursday August 1, 2019 running through Sunday.
Officially the “127 Yard Sale,” because much of the route lies along scenic Highway 127, has it’s southern endpoint at Gadsden, Alabama’s Noccalula Falls Park. From there, it meanders through Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio. The northernmost stop on the route is Addison, Michigan, which is just outside of Detroit.
The very first one came together in 1987, founded by a man “who wanted travelers to bypass interstate highways in favor of scenic routes that took them through rural communities,” the official website for the event relates.
All along the way, vendors are expected to set up booths, with some strategic locations, like the park in Noccalula Falls, will be more commercially oriented.
There will be something for everyone all along the route and organizers stress the need to be prepared for the weather. They strongly recommend, “bring cash, sunscreen and rain gear.”
The famous Highway 127 which gives the event its name lies on the northern part of the trail, working south to Chattanooga, Tennessee. From there, it swings into Lookout Mountain, Georgia. From there, It is called the Lookout Mountain Parkway to the destination in Gadsden, Alabama.
The whole experience is meant to give the entire family a chance to get out and socialize, bargain hunt and generally have a great time in some of the most beautiful scenery America has to offer.
